Learn all about leather crafting and make a tanned leather card case with high-quality Italian vegetable-tanned leather.
Leather is one of the oldest materials known to man and one of the most satisfying to work with, when the leather is sustainably sourced and naturally tanned.
As master shoemakers, Deborah and James of Carreducker, have over 20 years experience working with leather, particularly natural oak bark and veg. tanned leathers. They’ve been developing courses and teaching handsewn shoemaking to enthusiasts from all over the world, for almost as long!
They’re now bringing their knowledge and expertise online in a series of specialist courses. The in-depth classes are designed to give you a good foundation in the craft and to get you launched on your way.
In this online workshop, led by Deborah, you will learn how to make an Italian veg. tanned leather card case with three pockets using basic leathercraft tools and techniques including saddle stitch.
Follow the step by step video and course notes to gain the skills and confidence to continue working in leather at home, with all the essential tools you’ll need included in the kit.
Learn how to decorate the edges, glue the layers, punch the holes, saddle stitch and hand-finish the case.
The case is pre-cut from natural veg. tanned leather, which is sustainably sourced and tanned using only organic matter such as oak bark, chestnut or mimosa and will develop a beautiful patina over time.
You will receive a kit (pictured) containing the tools, materials, card case pocket sections and waxed linen thread cut to length; a 30-minute video introducing you to specialist leathercraft tools and some leathercraft techniques as you are guided through the making process; and a PDF of detailed course notes to download.
