In this online course, Ryan Frank, a furniture designer based in London and Barcelona who specialises in what he describes as ‘edgy, free-range furniture, with sustainability built in as standard’, shows you through simple illustrations and instructions how to create his strand board table.

The project employs a single sheet of OSB (oriented strand board), a cheap material made from shredded wood compressed with adhesive and commonly used in the building industry, hidden away in floors, roofs and walls, but is also often seen covering up broken shop windows or creating walls around construction sites. As a result, it can frequently be found discarded in skips, or bought inexpensively from a hardware shop. This design leaves very little waste from a sheet and is held together with the minimum of fixings. It can also be customised to work in different sizes.
