What is Goldwork?

Goldwork is a traditional hand embroidery technique using a range of metal wires and threads. The technique has a long history going back to medieval ecclesiastical garments and now can be seen in modern military uniforms as well as haute couture fashion and modern embroidery art.

Goldwork itself has many different techniques using a wide range of materials and processes to create eye-catching and unique hand embroidery. This piece of work uses some of the most commonly used techniques such as chipping and couching.
